Any lecture is a good lecture if you leave it with at least one sentence in mind that has impressed and roused you – say our colleague lecturers, participants of panels and educational trainings delivered during the past year. We asked them why they readily responded to invitations to participate at conferences, despite large amounts of work they have. Here is what they told us.
Among better panels held last year – at least according to the informal rating of the audience, which really matters after all – was the panel about the Generation Z at the Digital Conference. We presented a part of our research on the Generation Z, whereas Marija Matić, Data & Communications Director, one of the module leaders at our Direct Media Academy and a professional who recorded a three-figure number of held conferences in her work biography commented on the subject:
“I believe every type of education has a great power to change the overall market and society for the better. This is the only way we can keep up with everything that is happening in this extremely fast industry prone to changes. Lectures and sharing of practical experience are particularly important. These are the stories about unique, original approaches that help the profession conceive the market and industry in a new way.”
The third generation of learners successfully completed a three-month educational program of AcademiAA, whereas the lecturers included our colleagues from the Creative and Media Planning Departments. This required a lot of preparation, but the feeling of satisfaction, they said, was huge:
“Being a lecturer is an honour and a true privilege. Each time they ask me to deliver a lecture, I see it as a great compliment. I readily accept the invitations, although I know they are bring about a lot of serious advance preparation; nevertheless, no matter how big a burden on the one hand, this is really enjoyable on the other hand, because I feel I am learning and progressing through each lecture”, said Voljena Daničić Head of Creative Direct Media United Solutions.
“Ibn Gabirol once nicely put it that wisdom begins with a desire to know. This quotation explains, in the best possible way, my love for lecturing. The cathartic experience of sharing knowledge and energy with people wishing to hear something new is always special and very valuable for me and I share every moment with extreme emotion.
Because of these wonderful, often indescribable moments, I can always say that lectures are my great passion, great desire and great need”, said Darko Crnogorac Senior Media Planner Direct Media United Solutions.
The project “Visual Economy” was realized for the second consecutive time on the Faculty of Economics at the University of Belgrade, within the SPEKOF Group student organization. With a wish to bring students closer to marketing practice, we held a cool lecture on Media Planning under the title “#Agencylife – Mythbusters”.
“Following my small sample, I can say that I liked the sense of responsibility which makes you reconsider everything you know on the topic you are teaching, because you do not want to go out in front of the audience with incomplete information or partial conclusions. This responsibility makes you further explore, learn and draw conclusions. Thus, besides being pleased to benefit somebody else, you have the additional satisfaction to once again confirm what you already know as well as the enthusiasm for learning something new while preparing the lectures and passing it on to someone else”- Aleksandra Vasic Senior Media Planner told us.
“Somewhere in everyday life and business we lose the feeling that the knowledge we possess is fairly rare and not something that you acquire at the undergraduate studies, not even at the Faculty of Economics, Marketing Department. Therefore, the biggest challenge for me was to tailor this lecture to the students of marketing, so that they can understand what I say, while not making the story too general. At the conferences, I would like to listen to the lectures that would be tailored to us, to learn something new and relevant” – said Marina Miščević, Digital Specialist Media Direct Media United Solutions.
Corporate Innovation Conference
The first Corporate Innovation Conference was held last year in Belgrade, organized by the ICT Hub, where we talked about the corporate innovation program for employees that we implement under the title – DM Challenge.
“Each conference participation for me is a development opportunity – a chance to constructively exchange opinions, ideas and energy. I think spreading knowledge is a socially responsible act and an obligation of each individual; therefore, I am committed to always using my lectures as a channel for sharing my experience. Conferences are a creative valve and a chance to relocate – a place where I get fresh and relevant insights into both the profession and the industry or general trends.” – said Ivana Mihajlović HR Director Direct Media United Solutions.
DM Smart Lab
The young are our favourite target group for sharing knowledge. Our lecturers from the DM Smart Lab program that opened the door to students of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts last year explained the reason for this:
“Passing the knowledge on to young generation is a wonderful experience. With their original and modern approach, they completely change the former work concept, complementing it with their original ideas through the application of modern technology. They constantly reveal to us new channels of communication and their possible interconnection. As much as we have to give to young people, we also learn from them every day” – said Slađana Vićanović, Account Manager Direct Media United Solutions, who delivered a lecture on” Fundamentals of Media Planning.
“Knowledge and experience are there to be shared. Like happiness, they are rare things that become larger only by sharing. It is only then that they make sense. To play a role of a lecturer is a specific confirmation of what you are doing and the obligation to continue doing so. I enjoy each lecture. Literally. The exchange of energy, the talk, questions and socializing are always unique and priceless.” – says Mirko Bunčić, Senior Copywriter Direct Media United Solutions, who delivered to students the lecture on Creative Solutions that Work.
The fourth Festival of Integrated Communications – KAKTUS, titled “Idea is Nothing without Execution”, organized by the Marketing Mreža portal, gathered the industry once again. Igor Černiševski Digital Group Account Manager, participated in a debate on the topic of Programmatic Advertising. “I definitely like to be present at conferences, both as a lecturer and as a learner. Conferences are a place where I can always hear something new, that is, meet people from whom I can learn a lot.”, says Igor, who is also one of the lecturers at the DIMAQ program of IAB Serbia.
Milica Kuvalja from the Research Department says that during the lectures she always tries to share with the learners her energy, passion and faith in the analysis that she delivers. Last year, at Webiz education, she delivered a lecture on E-WOM, our in-house sentiment analysis tool.
“I believe any lecture is a good lecture if you leave it with at least one sentence in mind that has impressed and roused you. Every lecturer has his own energy that he passes onto the area he is talking of and often, after the lecture, we remember the energy of the lecturer and “the thing“ he/she was speaking of that was interesting. I think it is always easier to share the message in the right way by presenting it and am flattered whenever I get the chance to hold a lecture. What I would like to hear at the next year’s conferences are definitely the ways to apply artificial intelligence. So far, we have had many opportunities to listen to theoretical lectures on AI, let us now move on to practice and hear some first-hand experiences …”, says Milica.
The Right Measure of Media
The topics discussed at the Media Measurement Conference titled “The Right Measure of Media” were challenges, obstacles, opportunities and overall situation of advertising in Serbia and the Region. Darko Jovančić from the Digital Department participated in the panel on the topic of online measurements.
“Sharing knowledge and expertise is the only guarantor of overall success and development of our industry and society. We need to build a stronger connection of understanding between business development and media i.e. communication planning. And of course, to move focus a little bit more from the point of “user listening” to the point of “user understanding”, says Darko.
Our colleagues from the HR team were part of the last year’s “HR Enter” project. They presented the students who showed an initiative in HR career development the ideas on how companies can be more attractive to young talents.
“What I like the most is the interaction with learners, which I think is of great importance at every lecture. As for the topics of future conferences that I would like to hear about – everything regarding the digital media, as well as some inspiring, creative lectures on diverse topics.”, said Nevena Tosic from the HR Department, while her colleague, Ana Jekic, added: “The reason why I like to participate in conferences as a lecturer is a challenge. It is dynamic and exciting. It is interactive and motivating. I think that emphasis should be placed on other forms of knowledge sharing as well, in addition to conferences and lectures, with highlighted purpose and through interaction.“
Future is NOW
At the very end of the year, the IT and Business Conference – Future is NOW, gathered numerous Serbian and foreign experts from various fields such as modern technologies, modern business, futurism and innovation. Milica Markovic, the Corporate Communications Manager, spoke at the panel on the future of marketing and corporate communications.
“We are proud of these hours and hours of sharing the first-hand experience during the past year, which we ourselves did not managed to count. We have not listed here all of the conferences where we lectured. We also participated at Sempl, Weekend Media Festival, the Challenge … We look forward to new conferences and wish that their number be doubled this year, as well as the knowledge that grows through sharing. With this in mind, we wish you a happy educational year 2019!”, Milica says.
See where we were and what we did in the year behind us.
