NURDOR, the national association of parents of children with cancer, consists of parents, doctors, medical staff and all people of good will. Its aim is to make life easier for children with cancer and their families by providing them with practical, emotional and financial support.
Within the campaign “I am fighting”, on February 15 – International Day of Children with Cancer, a campaign of support was launched in more than 20 towns in Serbia for all children who are being treated for cancer. In Novi Sad, Zrenjanin, Subotica, Ruma, Bačka Palanka, Belgrade, Niš, Kragujevac, Smederevo, Čačak, Ivanjica, Šabac, Smederevska Palanka, Leskovac, Požarevac, Valjevo, Novi Pazar, Vranje, Aleksinac, Pirot and Ub, at 1 PM precisely, hundreds of colourful balloons of support were released in the air. The citizens could purchase balloons or promotional items and thus contribute to the construction of a new children’s haematological-ontological department in Niš.
Todor Mančić, chairman of NURDOR Managing Board, said that every year about 350 children in Serbia are diagnosed with a malignant disease, but it is positive that the cure rate increases from year to year.
